Toploader Backpack
Handmade in Leipzig and built to order, this backpack uses high-end materials that keep it lightweight and tough, designed to handle whatever your day throws at it. Beneath the lid, the collar closes with a Cyberian cord-lock for quick operation, and the lid straps are generously sized to carry oversized items on the outside of the bag.
The Fidlock chest strap minimizes dangling webbing and features the satisfying snap of magnets. Side pockets comfortably hold bottles and include replaceable elastic cords, so they won’t wear out over time. The back panel is equipped with spacer mesh for breathability and comfort.
Fabrics and Colours
I offer four main fabric options: ULTRA, RX30, X11, and X50. ULTRA fabrics are the default, offering unmatched durability at a low weight, making them perfect for heavy use. RX30 and X50 are excellent alternatives if you prefer more colour options while still maintaining solid performance.
Abrasion resistance is a key metric because it measures how well a fabric can withstand friction and wear over time—essential for ensuring your bag remains reliable through daily use, rough surfaces, and outdoor conditions. All the fabrics I offer are highly abrasion-resistant:
- RX30 and X50 last ±2000 cycles in standardised abrasion tests.
- ULTRA200 lasts 4400 cycles.
- ULTRA400 reaches an incredible 8800 cycles.
For comparison, VX21 and Robic nylon—fabrics commonly used in other backpacks—are rated up to 500 cycles.
Base of the Bag: The default is black ULTRA400 for toughness and smudge resistance. But RX30 or X50 are solid options too, dark colours are recommended for this high-wear area.
Side Pockets: UltraStretch is my go to because of its durable elasticity, but UltraGrid can also be used. RX30 is on the stiff side for this application, but it softens with time and offers a wider range of colours.
Straps and Collar: White-on-black grid fabric is my default, other UltraGrid colours are available if preferred.
